Having an active Google Business Profile is essential to increase your online visibility and attract more customers. Whether you're just getting started with your profile or have taken over management of an existing one, this article contains our tips and tutorials.

In this article:

Check if a profile already exists for your business

  • Go to Google Maps and search for your business name, possibly including the city.
  • Look at the search results. If a profile exists, two situations are possible:
    • It was automatically created by Google.
    • Someone else (a former employee, agency, or yourself with another email) created it and has access.

Your business doesn't have a profile yet?

Why create a profile?

  • Boost your online visibility: Your profile will appear in Google Search results and Google Maps, making it easier for potential customers to find you.
  • Share essential information: Provide clients with opening hours, address, phone number, and other key details to help them plan a visit.
  • Engage with customers: Respond to reviews, post photos and special offers, and encourage direct contact.

How to create a new business profile?

  • Log in to Google and then go to Google Maps.
  • Choose one of three options:
    • Option #1: Enter your address in the search bar, then click Add your business.
    • Option #2: Right-click anywhere on the map and select Add your business.
    • Option #3: Click the menu in the top-left, then choose Add your business.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your business registration.
Please note: Your profile must be verified by Google to be visible.  Read the tutorial

Your business already has a profile?

If a profile exists, check its rating and reviews. If you're satisfied, request access to manage info, respond to reviews, and share content. If you're not satisfied with its rating or reviews, consider creating a new profile and following the steps above.

You want access to your business profile, and Google offers "Claim this business"

  1. Search for your business on Google or Google Maps.
  2. In the info card, click “Are you the owner?” or “Claim this business”.
  3. Click “Manage now” and fill in the requested details.

You want access to your business profile, but Google doesn't offer "Claim this business"

  • Go to business.google.com/add, enter your business name and address, then select it from the search results if it appears.

If the profile is already claimed, a message will indicate it is managed by someone else.

In that case:

  1. Click “Request access”.
  2. Fill out the form with your contact details and indicate if you're the owner or an employee.
  3. Submit the request.

The current manager has three days to respond. You will receive an email confirmation:

  • If approved: you gain access to manage the profile.
  • If denied: contact Google to prove ownership.
  • If no response within three days: you can claim the profile following instructions in the email.
